Mentioned
Content Gap Analysis

Find the keywords you're
missing.

Your competitors rank for keywords you don't. Each one is a missed opportunity — potential traffic, leads, and customers going to someone else. Mentioned finds these gaps and scores them by opportunity so you know exactly where to focus.

How It Works

From gap to opportunity in four steps

Mentioned automates the content gap analysis process that SEO professionals do manually — comparing your keyword rankings against your competitors to find where they rank and you don't.

1

Add competitors

Tell Mentioned which brands you compete with. Pro plans support 2 competitors per brand, Business supports 3.

2

Scan rankings

Mentioned scans both your keyword rankings and your competitors' rankings automatically on a weekly schedule.

3

Find gaps

Keywords your competitors rank for in the top 20 — that you don't rank for at all — are flagged as content gaps.

4

Score opportunities

Each gap is scored 0–10 based on search volume, competitor position, keyword difficulty, intent, and CPC. Focus on the highest scores first.

Opportunity Scoring

Not all gaps are worth filling

A competitor ranking for a keyword with 10 monthly searches isn't the same as one ranking for a keyword with 10,000. Mentioned's opportunity score weighs multiple factors so you can prioritize content creation where it matters most.

8–10

High opportunity

High search volume, moderate difficulty, strong commercial intent. Create this content first.

5–7

Good opportunity

Solid volume with achievable difficulty. Worth adding to your content calendar.

3–4

Moderate

Lower volume or higher difficulty. Consider if it aligns with your strategy.

1–2

Low priority

Minimal volume or very high competition. Probably not worth the effort right now.

The opportunity score combines search volume (how many people search for this keyword), competitor position (how well they rank), keyword difficulty (how hard it is to rank), search intent (informational, commercial, transactional), and cost-per-click (indicating commercial value). A keyword with 5,000 monthly searches, moderate difficulty, and commercial intent scores much higher than one with 50,000 searches but extreme difficulty.

Why It Matters

Stop guessing where to create content

Most content strategies are based on intuition: "We should write about X because it feels important." Content gap analysis replaces intuition with data. Instead of guessing which topics to cover, you see exactly where competitors are capturing traffic that should be yours.

Every keyword your competitor ranks for and you don't is a stream of potential customers flowing to them instead of you. Content gap analysis shows you where to build the dam.

The magic is in the auto-resolution. When you create content and start ranking for a previously-gapped keyword, Mentioned automatically marks that gap as resolved. Over time, you can watch your unresolved gaps shrink — a concrete measure of your content strategy's effectiveness that most tools don't provide.

What You See

Content gaps that drive action

Gap discovery

For every competitor you track, Mentioned identifies keywords they rank for in the top 20 that your site doesn't rank for at all. These are your content opportunities.

Opportunity scoring

Each gap gets a 0–10 opportunity score combining search volume, difficulty, intent, competitor position, and CPC. Sort by score to focus on the highest-impact gaps first.

Auto-resolution

When you create content and start ranking for a keyword that was previously a gap, Mentioned automatically marks it as resolved. Watch your unresolved gap count shrink over time.

Per-competitor breakdown

See which gaps come from which competitor. One competitor might dominate technical keywords while another owns educational content. Target each gap strategically.

Search intent classification

Know whether a gap keyword has informational, commercial, navigational, or transactional intent. Commercial and transactional gaps are higher priority because they represent people ready to take action.

Difficulty vs. volume visualization

A scatter plot showing every gap keyword positioned by search volume and keyword difficulty. Quickly identify the sweet spot: high-volume, low-difficulty keywords your competitors found but you haven't.
